Ingredients

  • 1 can (20 oz) canned jackfruit
  • 8 ounces vegan cream cheese
  • 3 tablespoons (finely chopped) spring onions
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 40 pieces vegan wonton wrappers
  • 2 cups (for frying) vegetable oil
  • 3 tablespoons (for sealing wrappers) water

Directions

Step 1

Drain and rinse the canned jackfruit. Pat dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

Step 2

Using your hands or a fork, shred the jackfruit until it resembles the texture of shredded crab meat.

Step 3

In a mixing bowl, combine the shredded jackfruit, vegan cream cheese, chopped spring onions, soy sauce, rice vinegar, garlic powder, and salt. Mix well until the ingredients are fully incorporated.

Step 4

Lay out a vegan wonton wrapper on a clean, dry surface. Scoop about 1 heaping teaspoon of the jackfruit mixture into the center of the wrapper.

Step 5

Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water using your finger. Fold the wrapper in half into a triangle, making sure to seal the edges tightly to prevent filling leakage.

Step 6

Optionally, bring the two lower corners of the triangle together and press to form the traditional crab rangoon shape.

Step 7

Repeat the filling and folding process with the remaining wonton wrappers.

Step 8

Heat the vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or pot over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Step 9

Carefully add 4-5 filled wontons to the hot oil at a time, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for 3-4 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.

Step 10

Remove the fried wontons from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Step 11

Repeat the frying process with the remaining wontons.

Step 12

Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce, such as sweet chili sauce or soy sauce.
