Ingredients

  • 2 slices Whole grain bread
  • 1 cup Raw hazelnuts
  • 2 tablespoons Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 tablespoons Maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Vegan butter (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 2

Spread the raw hazelnuts on a baking sheet and roast them in the oven for about 10 minutes, or until they are lightly browned and fragrant.

Step 3

Remove the hazelnuts from the oven and transfer them onto a clean kitchen towel. Rub the towel over the hazelnuts to remove as much of the skins as possible.

Add the hazelnuts to a food processor and blend on high speed until you get a smooth nut butter, stopping occasionally to scrape down the sides as needed.

Add the cocoa powder, maple syrup, vanilla extract, almond milk, and a pinch of salt to the food processor. Blend until all the ingredients are well combined and you have a smooth, creamy 'nutella'.

Adjust the sweetness if necessary by adding more maple syrup to taste, and blend again.

Toast the slices of whole grain bread until they are golden brown.
