Ingredients

  • 500 grams Powdered sugar
  • 60 milliliters Corn syrup
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable shortening
  • 2 tablespoons Water
  • 1 teaspoon Agar-agar powder
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch Salt

Directions

Step 1

Sift the powdered sugar into a large mixing bowl to remove any lumps and ensure a smooth texture.

Step 2

In a small saucepan, combine the water and agar-agar powder. Stir to dissolve, then let it sit for about 5 minutes.

Step 3

Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly. Once it boils, reduce the heat and simmer for about 2 minutes until the agar-agar is fully dissolved.

Step 4

Remove the saucepan from heat, and slowly stir in the corn syrup, vegetable shortening, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.

Step 5

Make a well in the center of the powdered sugar and pour in the liquid mixture.

Step 6

Using a spatula, mix the ingredients together until a dough begins to form.

Step 7

Knead the fondant with your hands until it becomes smooth and pliable, adding more powdered sugar if the fondant is too sticky.

Step 8

Wrap the vegan fondant tightly in plastic wrap and let it rest at room temperature for at least 30 minutes before using.

Step 9

The fondant is now ready to be rolled out and used for decorating cakes and pastries. If not using immediately, store it tightly wrapped in plastic at room temperature for up to three weeks.
