Ingredients

  • 6 pieces ripe saba bananas (or ripe plantains)
  • 1 cup canned or fresh jackfruit
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 12 pieces spring roll wrappers
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon water

Directions

Step 1

Peel the saba bananas or plantains and slice each banana into half lengthwise.

Step 2

If using canned jackfruit, drain well and slice into thin strips. If using fresh jackfruit, remove seeds and slice into thin strips.

Step 3

Place a spring roll wrapper on a flat surface and lay one sliced banana half on it about two inches from the bottom edge.

Step 4

Top the banana with a few strips of jackfruit and sprinkle about one to two teaspoons of brown sugar over the fruit.

Step 5

Fold the bottom of the wrapper over the filling, then fold in the sides and tightly roll up the wrapper, sealing the end with a dab of water to keep it closed. Repeat this process for all wrappers.

Step 6

In a large frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat until it's hot enough for frying.

Step 7

Fry each turon in batches until golden brown and crispy, about two to three minutes per side.

Step 8

Remove the turon from the oil and place on paper towels to drain any excess oil.

Step 9
