Ingredients

  • 8 oz Tempeh
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 2 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Maple syrup
  • 1 tsp Smoked paprika
  • 0.5 tsp Garlic powder
  • 0.25 tsp Liquid smoke (optional)
  • 8 Sourdough bread slices
  • 4 tbsp Vegan mayonnaise
  • 4 Lettuce leaves
  • 1 Tomato, large, sliced
  • 0.25 tsp Salt
  • 0.25 tsp Black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Slice the tempeh into thin strips, approximately 1/4 inch thick.

Step 2

In a shallow bowl, whisk together the olive oil, soy sauce, maple syrup, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and liquid smoke (if using) to create a marinade.

Step 3

Place the tempeh strips into the marinade and ensure they are well coated. Allow them to marinate for at least 10 minutes.

Step 4

Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat. Once hot, add the marinated tempeh strips.

Step 5

Cook the tempeh for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they are caramelized and crispy. Remove from heat and set aside.

Toast the sourdough bread slices until golden brown.
