  • 1 medium Onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons Nutritional yeast
  • 2 tablespoons Ground flaxseed
  • 5 tablespoons Water (for flax egg)
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 cup All-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup Bread crumbs
  • 0.5 cup Vegan cheese shreds
  • 0 as needed Oil for frying

Directions

Step 1

In a medium bowl, combine the textured vegetable protein (TVP) with 1 cup of water and soy sauce. Allow it to rehydrate for about 10 minutes until the TVP has absorbed most of the liquid.

Step 2

In a small bowl, combine ground flaxseed with 5 tablespoons of water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes to thicken and form a flax egg.

Step 3

In a skillet over medium heat, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic for 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent and fragrant.

Step 4

In a large mixing bowl, combine the rehydrated TVP, sautéed onions and garlic, nutritional yeast, flax egg, paprika, cumin, black pepper, and salt. Mix well until thoroughly combined.
