Ingredients

  • 15 oz Canned black beans
  • 1 cup Rolled oats
  • 0.5 cup Chopped walnuts
  • 1 medium Chopped onion
  • 2 cloves Minced garlic
  • 0.25 cup BBQ sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Nutritional yeast
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cumin
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 4 Whole wheat burger buns
  • 4 Lettuce leaves
  • 4 Tomato slices
  • 0.25 cup Vegan mayonnaise

Directions

Step 1

Drain and rinse the canned black beans thoroughly under cold water. Shake off excess moisture.

Step 2

In a food processor, add the drained black beans, rolled oats, chopped walnuts, chopped onion, and minced garlic. Pulse until the mixture is well combined but still has some texture.

Step 3

Add the BBQ sauce, soy sauce, nutritional yeast, smoked paprika, ground cumin, olive oil, salt, and black pepper to the mixture. Pulse again until all ingredients are integrated and form a sticky, moldable mixture.

Step 4

Divide the mixture into four equal parts and shape each part into a patty about 3/4 inch thick.

Step 5

Preheat a grill or a skillet over medium-high heat. Ensure grill grates are clean and oiled if using a grill, to prevent sticking.

Step 6

Cook the patties for about 6-7 minutes on each side until they are well-charred and heated through. Adjust the heat as necessary to prevent burning.

Step 7

Toast the burger buns lightly on the grill or skillet until golden.

Step 8

Assemble the burgers by spreading a generous layer of vegan mayonnaise on the bottom half of each bun. Place a lettuce leaf, a charbroiled patty, and a slice of tomato. Top with the other half of the bun.

Step 9

Serve the burgers warm and enjoy the smoky, barbecue-infused flavor of this vegan delight.
