Ingredients

  • 1 cup Textured vegetable protein (TVP)
  • 1 cup Water
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 1 medium Onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Ground coriander
  • 0.5 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.5 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon Flaxseed meal
  • 3 tablespoons Water for flax eggs
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, combine the flaxseed meal with 3 tablespoons of water and set aside to create a flax egg.

Step 2

In a medium saucepan, bring 1 cup of water to a boil. Remove from heat and stir in the TVP. Cover and let it sit for about 5 minutes until the TVP has absorbed the water.

Once the TVP has rehydrated, add the soy sauce and mix well.

In a large bowl, combine the TVP mixture, chopped onion, minced garlic, smoked paprika, ground cumin, ground coriander, baking soda, salt, and black pepper. Mix until all the ingredients are well incorporated.

Add the breadcrumbs and mix thoroughly. Then, add the flax egg and continue to mix until the mixture binds together nicely.

With wet hands, shape the mixture into small sausage-like rolls, about 3 inches long.

In a skillet or grill pan over medium heat, add the olive oil. Once hot, add the vegan cevapcici in batches and cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until they are browned and crisp on the outside.
