Ingredients

  • 500 grams plant-based ground beef
  • 1 large, finely chopped onion
  • 2 medium, finely chopped tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 cup, frozen or fresh green peas
  • 2 whole, finely chopped green chili
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 0.5 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon, or to taste salt
  • 2 tablespoons, chopped cilantro leaves
  • 1 half, for juice lemon
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 cup water

Directions

Step 1

Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat.

Step 2

Add finely chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5-6 minutes.

Step 3

Stir in the ginger-garlic paste and finely chopped green chili, cooking for 2-3 minutes until the raw aroma disappears.

Step 4

Add the chopped tomatoes, and cook until they become soft and oil starts to separate, approximately 5 minutes.

Step 5

Mix in the coriander powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Stir well to combine the spices.

Step 6

Add the plant-based ground beef to the pan, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook for 5-7 minutes until it starts to brown.

Pour in a cup of water and add the green peas. Stir to combine.

Cover the pan and let it simmer for about 10-12 minutes on low heat, allowing the flavors to meld and the peas to cook through.

Uncover the pan, sprinkle with garam masala, and mix well. Adjust seasoning if necessary.

Turn off the heat, squeeze the juice of half a lemon over the kheema, and garnish with chopped cilantro leaves.
