Ingredients

  • 100 g All-purpose flour
  • 20 g Cornstarch
  • 1 medium Carrot, grated
  • 200 g Green cabbage, finely shredded
  • 2 stalks Green onions, thinly sliced
  • 100 g Bean sprouts
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper, ground
  • 150 ml Vegetable stock
  • 500 ml Vegetable oil, for frying

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and cornstarch. Mix well.

Step 2

Add the grated carrot, shredded cabbage, sliced green onions, bean sprouts, and minced garlic to the flour mixture.

Step 3

Season with turmeric powder, salt, and ground black pepper. Toss to evenly distribute the ingredients.

Step 4

Gradually pour in the vegetable stock while stirring to form a thick batter. The batter should be able to hold the vegetables together but not too runny.

Step 5

Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high heat.

Step 6

Scoop 2 tablespoons of the batter for each fritter and carefully place it into the hot oil. You can fry several at a time, but ensure not to overcrowd the pan.

Step 7

Fry each side for about 3 to 4 minutes or until the fritters are golden brown and crispy.

Step 8

Remove the fritters from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Step 9

Repeat the frying process with the remaining batter.

Step 10

Serve the vegan bakwan hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
