Ingredients

  • 1 block (about 14 ounces) Extra-firm tofu
  • 3 tablespoons Soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked paprika
  • 2 tablespoons Nutritional yeast
  • 2 tablespoons Cornstarch
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

Remove the tofu from its packaging and press it for 10 minutes to remove excess moisture. Use a tofu press or place the tofu between two plates with a heavy object on top.

Step 3

Cut the pressed tofu into even strips, about 1/2 inch thick.

Step 4

In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, olive oil, maple syrup, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper to create the marinade.

Step 5

Place the tofu strips in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over them. Ensure all pieces are evenly coated. Let the tofu marinate for at least 15 minutes, flipping halfway through.

Step 6

In a separate small bowl, mix together the nutritional yeast and cornstarch.

Step 7

Remove the tofu strips from the marinade and lightly roll each one in the nutritional yeast mixture to form a light coating.

Step 8

Arrange the coated tofu strips on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer, ensuring they don’t touch each other for even cooking.

Step 9

Bake the tofu strips in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, flipping them halfway through, until they are golden and crispy.

Step 10

Remove from the oven and let the strips cool for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy them as a snack or serve alongside your favorite dipping sauce or salad!
