Ingredients

  • 200 grams Unsalted butter (softened)
  • 200 grams Granulated sugar
  • 4 pieces Large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons Pure vanilla extract
  • 250 grams All-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 120 milliliters Whole milk
  • 1 pinch Pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons Cocoa powder (unsweetened)
  • 2 tablespoons Hot water

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and line a 9-inch round cake pan with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy using an electric mixer (about 2-3 minutes).

Step 3

Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Step 4

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.

Step 5

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk. Start and end with the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.

Step 6

Remove 1/3 of the batter and transfer it to a small bowl. In a cup, mix the cocoa powder with the hot water until smooth, then add this mixture to the separated batter, stirring until fully incorporated.

Step 7

Spoon the vanilla batter and the chocolate batter alternately into the prepared cake pan. Use a skewer or knife to gently swirl the batters together to create a marbled effect. Be careful not to overmix.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.

Step 9

Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing and serving.
