Ingredients

  • 500 grams All-purpose flour
  • 250 milliliters Milk (warm)
  • 50 grams Unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 7 grams Dry yeast
  • 300 grams Ground beef or pork
  • 1 medium Onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Parsley (chopped, optional)
  • 1 large Egg yolk (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon Water or milk (for egg wash)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and dry yeast. Stir to dissolve and let sit for 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.

Step 2

Add melted butter, one egg, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix well.

Step 3

Gradually add flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Step 4

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours or until it doubles in size.

Step 5

While the dough is rising, prepare the filling. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat and sauté the chopped onion until soft and translucent.

Step 6

Add the ground meat, breaking it apart with a spoon, and cook until browned, around 8-10 minutes. Season with salt, black pepper, and chopped parsley, if using. Remove from heat and let the filling cool completely.

Step 7

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and flatten it into a small circle.

Step 8

Place a spoonful of the meat filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold the edges over the filling and pinch to seal. Arrange the buns, seam side down, on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Step 9

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Cover the buns with a clean towel and let them rest for 15-20 minutes while the oven heats up.

Step 10

In a small bowl, whisk together the egg yolk and water (or milk) to make the egg wash. Gently brush the tops of the buns with the egg wash.

Step 11

Bake the buns in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

Step 12

Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. These buns can be enjoyed warm or at room temperature.
