Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 4 pieces (6 oz each) Tuna steaks
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 3 cloves (minced) Garlic
  • 3 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Rice vinegar
  • 1.5 tablespoons Honey
  • 1 tablespoon Tomato paste
  • 0.25 teaspoon (optional) Red chili flakes
  • 2 tablespoons (chopped, for garnish) Fresh cilantro
  • 4 pieces (for serving) Lime wedges

Directions

Step 1

Pat the tuna steaks dry with paper towels and season both sides with salt and black pepper.

Step 2

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the tuna steaks and sear for 2-3 minutes per side, or until cooked to your desired level of doneness (medium-rare is ideal). Remove the steaks from the skillet and set aside.

Step 3

In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Stir in minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute, or until fragrant.

Step 4

Add soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, tomato paste, and red chili flakes (if using). Stir well to combine and simmer the mixture for 2-3 minutes, allowing it to slightly thicken.

Step 5

Return the tuna steaks to the skillet, spooning the sweet and sour glaze over the top to coat each steak. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, ensuring the flavors meld together.

Step 6

Remove from heat and transfer the tuna steaks to a serving platter. Garnish with freshly chopped cilantro.

Step 7

Serve immediately with lime wedges on the side for a zesty touch. Pair with steamed rice or a side salad to complete the meal.
