Ingredients

  • 4 pieces tuna steaks
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons black pepper
  • 2 cups cherry tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons capers
  • 3 cloves garlic cloves
  • 0.5 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 0.25 teaspoons red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 0.25 cup white wine (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Directions

Step 1

Season the tuna steaks on both sides with salt and black pepper. Set aside.

Step 2

Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, sear the tuna steaks for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until cooked to your preferred level of doneness. Remove the tuna from the skillet and set aside on a plate, tented with foil to keep warm.

Step 3

In the same skillet, add the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Lower the heat to medium and add minced garlic. Cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.

Step 4

Add the cherry tomatoes to the skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, for 3-4 minutes or until the tomatoes begin to soften and release their juices.

Step 5

Stir in the capers, red pepper flakes (if using), and white wine (if using). Simmer for another 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.

Step 6

Remove the skillet from heat and stir in fresh basil leaves and lemon juice.

Step 7

To serve, place the seared tuna steaks on plates and spoon the tomato caper basil sauce over the top.

Step 8

Garnish with additional basil leaves if desired and serve immediately.
