Ingredients

  • 2 cans (5 oz each) canned tuna (in water or oil, drained)
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon dijon mustard
  • 0.5 cup red onion (finely chopped)
  • 0.5 cup celery (finely chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons parsley (fresh, chopped)
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup fried onions (store-bought or homemade)

Directions

Step 1

Drain the canned tuna and transfer it to a large mixing bowl. Use a fork to break it into smaller chunks.

Step 2

Add the mayonnaise, dijon mustard, and lemon juice to the bowl. Mix until the tuna is evenly coated.

Step 3

Stir in the finely chopped red onion, celery, and parsley. Mix until all ingredients are well combined.

Step 4

Season the mixture with salt and black pepper. Taste, and adjust seasoning if needed.

Step 5

If using homemade fried onions, heat a small frying pan over medium heat with a drizzle of oil. Thinly slice one small onion, add it to the pan, and cook, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and crispy. This should take about 5 minutes. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Step 6

Top the tuna salad with the fried onions just before serving to maintain their crispiness.

Step 7

Serve the tuna salad on a bed of lettuce, as a sandwich filling, or with crackers. Enjoy!
