Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts (or pecans)
  • 1 cup shredded sweetened coconut

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9x13-inch baking pan by lining it with parchment paper or lightly greasing it.

Step 2

In a medium bowl, cream together the unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in the vanilla extract.

Step 3

Gradually add the all-purpose flour to the butter mixture, stirring until a crumbly dough forms.

Step 4

Press the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan to form the crust. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until lightly golden.

Step 5

While the crust is baking, combine the semi-sweet chocolate chips and sweetened condensed milk in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 20-second increments, stirring between each, until smooth and melted.

Step 6

Remove the crust from the oven and pour the chocolate mixture evenly over the baked crust, spreading with a spatula as needed.

Step 7

Sprinkle the chopped walnuts (or pecans) and shredded coconut evenly over the chocolate layer, pressing gently so they adhere.

Step 8

Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden and the coconut is lightly toasted.

Step 9

Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before cutting into 16 squares. Serve and enjoy!
