Ingredients

  • 8 pieces Fresh red chili peppers (bird’s eye or similar)
  • 1 medium Red bell pepper
  • 4 pieces Garlic cloves
  • 120 ml Olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons White vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Start by prepping the red chili peppers. Remove their stems and slice them in half lengthwise. If you prefer a slightly milder sauce, you can remove some of the seeds.

Step 2

Roast the red bell pepper over an open flame or under a broiler until its skin is charred and blistered. Place the pepper in a bowl, cover with plastic wrap for 5 minutes, then peel off the skin. Remove the seeds and cut it into chunks.

Step 3

Place the chopped chilies, roasted red bell pepper, garlic cloves, olive oil, white vinegar, lemon juice, smoked paprika, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper into a blender or food processor.

Step 4

Blend the mixture until smooth. If you prefer a slightly thinner consistency, you can add 1-2 tablespoons of water and pulse again.

Step 5

Transfer the sauce to a small saucepan and heat it over low heat for about 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, to allow the flavors to meld together.

Step 6

Remove the sauce from heat and let it cool to room temperature before transferring it to a sterilized jar or bottle. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Step 7

Use this Piri Piri sauce as a marinade, basting sauce, or dipping sauce for grilled or roasted chicken. Enjoy its bold and spicy flavors!
