Ingredients

  • 500 grams beef ribeye or sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 4 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium-sized pear, grated (preferably Asian pear)
  • 2 stalks scallions, thinly sliced
  • 0.5 teaspoons ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, toasted

Directions

Step 1

Place the thinly sliced beef in a large bowl. If the beef is too thick to slice thinly, freeze it for 30 minutes to make slicing easier.

Step 2

In a separate bowl, prepare the marinade by whisking together the soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated pear, scallions, and ground black pepper.

Step 3

Pour the marinade over the beef, ensuring all the slices are evenly coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or up to overnight for more intense flavor.

Step 4

Heat a grill pan or skillet over medium-high heat. Add the vegetable oil to the pan.

Step 5

Working in batches, add the marinated beef to the hot pan in a single layer, being careful not to overcrowd. Cook for 1-2 minutes on each side, or until the beef is caramelized and cooked through.

Step 6

Transfer the cooked beef to a serving plate and garnish with toasted sesame seeds.

Step 7

Serve hot with steamed rice, kimchi, and lettuce leaves for wrapping, if desired.
