Ingredients

  • 4 cups Water
  • 3 tablespoons Ground Arabic coffee
  • 6 pods Green cardamom pods
  • 1 teaspoon Rose water (optional for extra fragrance)

Directions

Step 1

In a medium saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a gentle boil over medium heat.

Step 2

While waiting for the water to boil, lightly crush the green cardamom pods using the flat side of a knife. This will release their fragrant oils.

Step 3

Once the water starts to boil, reduce the heat to low and add 3 tablespoons of ground Arabic coffee to the water. Stir gently to combine.

Step 4

Add the crushed cardamom pods to the coffee mixture and allow it to simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes. Do not let the coffee come to a rolling boil at this stage, as it may become too bitter.

Step 5

After simmering, remove the saucepan from heat and let the coffee sit for 2 minutes to allow the grounds to settle to the bottom.

Step 6

Carefully strain the coffee through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a tall, narrow serving vessel, such as a dallah (traditional coffee pot) or a small teapot.

Step 7

Optionally, stir in 1 teaspoon of rose water for an added floral note before serving.

Step 8

Serve the coffee hot in small cups, traditionally accompanied by dates or other sweets.
