Ingredients

  • 1 cup Light corn syrup
  • 1 4-tablespoon stick Unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 3 cups Powdered sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon Yellow food coloring
  • 12 ounces Chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons Crisco shortening

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the light corn syrup, butter, and vanilla extract. Beat with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy.

Step 2

Slowly add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing well after each addition. Continue until a smooth, dough-like consistency is achieved.

Step 3

Remove about one-third of the mixture and place it in a separate bowl. Add the yellow food coloring to this smaller portion and mix until an even yellow color is achieved. This will be the 'yolk.'

Step 4

Cover both the white and yellow mixtures with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until firm enough to handle.

Step 5

Once the mixtures are firm, roll the yellow portion into small marble-sized balls (one for each egg). Set them on a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze for 15 minutes.

Step 6

Take a heaping tablespoon of the white mixture and flatten it in your hand. Place one yellow ball in the center and wrap the white mixture around it. Roll gently to create a smooth egg shape. Repeat for all the eggs and place them in the freezer for 15 minutes.

Step 7

While the eggs are freezing, melt the chocolate chips and shortening together in a double boiler or microwave, stirring until smooth.

Step 8

Using a fork or dipping tool, dip each egg into the melted chocolate, ensuring it is fully coated. Let any excess chocolate drip off before placing the egg on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Step 9

Allow the chocolate coating to set at room temperature or place the eggs in the refrigerator for quicker setting.

Step 10

Store the finished Cadbury Cream Eggs in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to enjoy.
