Ingredients

  • 16 oz Extra-firm tofu
  • 2 tbsp Cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1 cup Ketchup
  • 1 cup Pineapple juice
  • 2 tbsp Honey
  • 1 tbsp Apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Smoked paprika
  • 0.5 tsp Ground cumin
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.25 tsp Black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Press the tofu to remove excess moisture. Wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel, place it on a plate, and set a heavy object (like a skillet) on top for 15 minutes.

Step 2

Slice the tofu into 1-inch cubes and gently toss them with the cornstarch to create a light coating.

Step 3

Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the tofu cubes in a single layer and cook for about 3–4 minutes on each side, until golden and crispy. Remove and set aside.

Step 4

In a medium saucepan, combine ketchup, pineapple juice, honey, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, garlic powder, smoked paprika, ground cumin, salt, and black pepper. Stir well and bring to a simmer over medium heat.

Step 5

Reduce the heat to low and allow the barbecue sauce to simmer for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.

Step 6

Once the sauce is ready, gently toss the crispy tofu cubes in the sauce until fully coated.

Step 7

Serve the tofu hot with your choice of sides, such as steamed rice, quinoa, roasted vegetables, or a fresh salad. Garnish with chopped scallions or cilantro if desired.
