Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 0.75 cup milk
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2.25 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds, toasted
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
  • 2 tablespoons sunflower seeds, lightly toasted
  • 1 serving egg wash (1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon milk)

Directions

Step 1

In a small saucepan, warm the milk until it's lukewarm (around 100°F). Stir in the sugar and yeast, then let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Cut in the butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 3

Add the yeast mixture and beaten egg to the dry ingredients. Mix until a soft dough forms.

Step 4

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8–10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 5 minutes.

Step 5

Shape the dough into a ball, place it in a greased bowl, and cover with a clean kitchen towel. Let it rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Step 6

Punch down the dough and divide it into two equal portions. Roll each portion into a circle roughly 12 inches in diameter.

Step 7

Brush the surface of each circle with egg wash and sprinkle half the sesame, poppy, and sunflower seeds over each circle.

Step 8

Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, cut each circle into 8 wedges (like a pizza). Roll each wedge from the wider end towards the point to form a crescent shape.

Step 9

Place the crescents on a parchment-lined baking sheet, ensuring the pointed end is tucked underneath to prevent unrolling. Cover with a towel and let rise for 30 minutes.

Step 10

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the crescents with more egg wash and sprinkle additional seeds on top if desired.

Step 11

Bake for 18–20 minutes or until the crescents are golden brown and fragrant.

Step 12

Remove from the oven and cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with butter or your favorite spread!
