Ingredients

  • 4 cups broccoli florets
  • 1 cup slivered almonds
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 cup water (for steaming)

Directions

Step 1

Prepare the broccoli by washing it thoroughly and cutting it into bite-sized florets.

Step 2

In a large skillet or saucepan, add 1 cup of water and bring it to a simmer on medium heat. Add the broccoli florets to the skillet, cover with a lid, and steam for 4-5 minutes until tender but still bright green. Drain the water and set the broccoli aside.

Step 3

In the same skillet, melt the butter with the olive oil over medium heat. Add the slivered almonds and stir frequently for 3-5 minutes until they are lightly toasted and golden brown. Be careful not to burn them.

Step 4

Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant, being cautious not to let it brown.

Step 5

Return the steamed broccoli to the skillet and toss gently to coat it with the almond mixture.

Step 6

Add the lemon zest, salt, and black pepper, tossing everything together until evenly combined.

Step 7

Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Serve the Toasted Almond Broccoli warm as a side dish.
