Ingredients

  • 8 cups All-purpose flour
  • 5 tablespoons Baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter (cold, cubed)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar until evenly distributed.

Step 2

Add the cold, cubed unsalted butter to the dry mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse sand with small pea-sized bits of butter remaining.

Step 3

Transfer the biscuit mix to an airtight container or a large resealable bag. Store in the refrigerator or freezer for up to 3 months.

Step 4

To make basic biscuits: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Measure out 2 1/4 cups of the prepared biscuit mix into a bowl. Add 3/4 cup of milk (or buttermilk) and stir until the dough just comes together.

Step 5

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead it 2-3 times. Pat the dough into a 1-inch-thick circle and cut using a biscuit cutter or a glass.

Step 6

Place the biscuit rounds on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch of space between them.

Step 7

Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the tops are golden brown. Serve warm.
