Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.75 cups Water
  • 1 pound Ground beef or minced pork (optional: firm tofu for vegetarian version)
  • 3 stalks Green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger, grated
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 cup Cabbage, finely shredded
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil
  • 0.5 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Cooking oil (for greasing the steamer)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and 0.5 teaspoons of salt. Gradually add 0.75 cups of water while kneading the dough. Knead until it forms a smooth and elastic dough. Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.

Step 2

In a separate bowl, prepare the filling: mix the ground beef or minced pork (or tofu), green onions, ginger, garlic, shredded cabbage, soy sauce, sesame oil, and black pepper. Combine thoroughly to ensure even seasoning.

Step 3

After resting the dough, divide it into small portions the size of a golf ball. Roll each portion into a thin, round wrapper about 3 inches in diameter.

Step 4

Place about 1 tablespoon of the filling in the center of each wrapper. Gently fold the edges together, pleating as you go, and pinch to seal the top. Repeat until all the dough and filling are used.

Step 5

Grease the surface of a steamer tray with 1 tablespoon of cooking oil or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

Step 6

Arrange the momos on the steamer tray, leaving space between each to prevent sticking. Steam over boiling water for 12-15 minutes, or until the dough is cooked through and slightly translucent.

Step 7

Serve the momos hot with a side of dipping sauce, such as spicy tomato chutney or soy-based sauce.
