Ingredients

  • 480 ml Freshly brewed strong coffee
  • 300 g Dark brown sugar
  • 1 piece Vanilla bean
  • 375 ml Vodka (or white rum for a sweeter liqueur)
  • 120 ml Water

Directions

Step 1

Brew 480 ml of strong coffee and set it aside to cool to room temperature.

Step 2

In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the dark brown sugar and water. Heat over medium flame, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has completely dissolved. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool for a few minutes.

Step 3

Split the vanilla bean down the middle lengthwise and scrape out the seeds using the back of a knife.

Step 4

In a large sterilized jar or bottle, combine the cooled coffee, sugar syrup, vodka (or rum), and the vanilla bean (including the seeds and pod).

Seal the jar tightly and shake well to mix all ingredients thoroughly.

Allow the liqueur to steep for at least 2 weeks, storing it in a cool, dark place. Shake the jar every 1-2 days to help the flavors meld together.
