  • 1 pound Ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 2 medium Yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 pieces Swiss cheese slices
  • 4 pieces Cheddar cheese slices
  • 8 slices Rye bread
  • 2 tablespoons Mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Vegetable oil

Directions

Step 1

In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Add the sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 15-20 minutes until they are golden brown and caramelized. Transfer the onions to a bowl and set aside.

Step 2

Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and shape them into thin, wide patties roughly the size of the rye bread slices. Season each side of the patties with salt and black pepper.
