Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
  • 1 small jalapeño, finely diced
  • 4 pieces burger buns (slider size)
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese slices
  • 1 medium avocado, sliced
  • 4 pieces lettuce leaves
  • 1 small tomato, sliced
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp hot sauce
  • 1 tbsp butter

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, cumin, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and diced jalapeño. Mix gently to evenly distribute the spices without overworking the meat.

Step 2

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into small patties, slightly larger than the buns to account for shrinkage during cooking.

Step 3

In a small bowl, mix the mayonnaise and hot sauce to create a simple spicy mayo. Set aside for later use.

Step 4

Preheat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat. While it heats, butter the insides of the burger buns lightly.

Step 5

Toast the buttered side of the buns in the hot skillet or on the grill until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes. Remove and set aside.

Step 6

Cook the burger patties in the skillet or on the grill for 3-4 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and cover with a lid to melt the cheese.

Step 7

Assemble the burgers: Spread a layer of the spicy mayo on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Place a lettuce leaf, a slice of tomato, and the cooked burger patty on top.

Step 8

Add a few slices of avocado, then finish with the top part of the bun. Secure with a toothpick if needed and serve immediately.
