Ingredients

  • 12 sheets Lasagna noodles
  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 1 pound Ground Italian sausage
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 medium Yellow onion, diced
  • 4 cloves Garlic cloves, minced
  • 28 ounces Canned crushed tomatoes
  • 6 ounces Tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 16 ounces Ricotta cheese
  • 1 large Egg
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley, chopped
  • 4 cups Mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 0.5 cups Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 0.25 cup Water

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain, rinse with cold water to prevent sticking, and set aside on a flat surface.

Step 3

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.

Step 4

Add the ground beef and Italian sausage to the skillet. Cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and fully cooked. Drain excess grease if needed.

Step 5

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, sugar, salt, black pepper, and 1/4 cup of water. Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 6

In a medium mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, parsley, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Mix until smooth and set aside.

Step 7

To assemble the lasagna, spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 8

Arrange 3-4 lasagna noodles over the sauce, slightly overlapping them.

Step 9

Spread 1/3 of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by 1 cup of shredded mozzarella, a sprinkling of Parmesan, and 1/3 of the meat sauce.

Step 10

Repeat the layers two more times: noodles, ricotta, mozzarella, Parmesan, and sauce. Finish with a top layer of noodles, sauce, and the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

Step 11

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil (tent the foil slightly to avoid touching the cheese). Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.

Step 12

Remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbling and golden brown.

Step 13

Let the lasagna rest for at least 15 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy!
