Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 0.5 pound ground pork
  • 0.75 cup breadcrumbs
  • 0.25 cup milk
  • 1 piece large egg
  • 0.5 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 3 cloves garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cups store-bought or homemade marinara sauce
  • 12 ounces spaghetti
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 0.25 cup extra grated Parmesan cheese for topping

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, combine the breadcrumbs and milk. Let this mixture sit for 5 minutes to allow the breadcrumbs to soak up the milk.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, soaked breadcrumbs, egg, Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, red pepper flakes, black pepper, salt, and 1 tablespoon of parsley. Mix gently with your hands until just combined, being careful not to overwork the mixture.

Step 3

Form the meat mixture into golf ball-sized meatballs (approximately 16-18 meatballs).

Step 4

Heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Sear the meatballs on all sides until browned, about 6-8 minutes total. Remove the meatballs and set aside.

Step 5

In the same pan, pour in the marinara sauce and bring it to a gentle simmer. Return the browned meatballs to the pan, cover, and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the meatballs are fully cooked through (internal temperature of 160°F). Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking.

Step 6

While the meatballs are cooking, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Step 7

Preheat the oven broiler (or set oven to 450°F).

Step 8

Once the meatballs are cooked, sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and extra Parmesan over the meatballs in the pan. Place the pan under the broiler for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbling.

Step 9

To serve, divide the spaghetti among plates and ladle the marinara sauce with meatballs over the top. Garnish with the remaining chopped parsley and extra Parmesan cheese, if desired.

Step 10

Serve hot and enjoy your Spicy Meatball Parmesan Over Spaghetti!
