Ingredients

  • 450 g asparagus
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 4 pieces garlic cloves
  • 2 pieces red Thai chiles
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp fish sauce
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 25 g fresh basil leaves
  • 2 pieces lime wedges

Directions

Step 1

Wash and dry the asparagus. Trim the woody ends, then cut the spears into 2-inch lengths.

Step 2

Peel and mince the garlic cloves. Thinly slice the red Thai chiles. Set aside.

Step 3

In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, fish sauce, and brown sugar. Stir until the sugar has dissolved.

Step 4

Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the vegetable oil and swirl to coat the pan.

Step 5

Add the minced garlic and sliced chiles to the hot oil. Stir-fry for 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.

Step 6

Increase the heat to high and add the asparagus to the pan. Stir-fry for 4-5 minutes until the asparagus turns bright green and starts to become tender but remains crisp.

Step 7

Pour the soy sauce mixture over the asparagus and toss to coat evenly. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, allowing the sauce to slightly reduce.

Step 8

Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the fresh basil leaves until wilted.

Step 9

Transfer the asparagus to a serving dish and garnish with lime wedges for a fresh citrusy finish. Serve immediately.
