Ingredients

  • 250 grams shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 3 tablespoons cilantro (fresh)
  • 2 stalks green onion
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon fish sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 0.25 teaspoon white pepper
  • 20 pieces dumpling wrappers
  • 1 tablespoon water (for sealing wrappers)
  • 2 pieces lettuce leaves or parchment paper (for steaming)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (for dipping, optional)
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice (for dipping, optional)

Directions

Step 1

Finely chop the shrimp until it forms a paste-like consistency and transfer it to a mixing bowl.

Step 2

Mince the garlic and grate the ginger. Add both to the bowl with the shrimp.

Step 3

Finely chop the cilantro and green onions, then mix them into the shrimp along with the soy sauce, fish sauce, sesame oil, and white pepper. Stir until well combined.

Step 4

Prepare a clean surface for assembling the dumplings, such as a cutting board or kitchen counter.

Step 5

Place one dumpling wrapper on the surface and spoon about 1 teaspoon of the shrimp mixture into the center.

Step 6

Dip your finger in water and moisten the edges of the dumpling wrapper. Fold it in half to form a half-moon shape and press the edges together to seal, making sure no air is trapped inside. You can pleat the edges for a decorative finish, if desired.

Step 7

Repeat the process until all the filling is used, covering completed dumplings with a damp cloth to prevent drying out.

Step 8

Line a bamboo steamer or a steaming basket with lettuce leaves or parchment paper to prevent sticking.

Step 9

Place the dumplings in the steamer in a single layer, making sure they don’t touch each other. Cover with the steamer lid.

Step 10

Bring a pot of water to a boil and place the steamer on top of the pot. Steam the dumplings over medium heat for 8-10 minutes until the shrimp filling is cooked through and the wrappers are translucent.

Step 11

While the dumplings are steaming, mix soy sauce and lime juice for a simple dipping sauce, if desired.

Step 12

Carefully remove the dumplings from the steamer and serve hot with the dipping sauce on the side.
