Ingredients

  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 0.25 cup Water
  • 0.25 cup Unsalted butter
  • 0.25 cup Granulated sugar
  • 2.25 teaspoons Dry active yeast
  • 1 whole Large egg
  • 3.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter (for brushing)
  • 0.5 cup Unsalted butter (for cinnamon butter)
  • 0.25 cup Powdered sugar
  • 0.25 cup Honey
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon

Directions

Step 1

In a small saucepan over low heat, warm the milk, water, and 1/4 cup butter until the butter has melted and the mixture is lukewarm (110–115°F). Do not let it boil.

Step 2

Pour the warmed mixture into a large mixing bowl and stir in the sugar. Sprinkle the dry active yeast over the top and let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.

Step 3

Whisk in the egg until incorporated.

Step 4

Gradually add the flour and salt, about 1/2 cup at a time, and stir until a dough forms.

Step 5

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 8–10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 5–6 minutes.

Step 6

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Step 7

Punch the dough down and roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/2-inch thickness. Cut into 2-inch squares or circles.

Step 8

Place the rolls on a greased baking sheet, cover with a towel, and let them rise again for 30 minutes, or until puffy.

Step 9

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 10

Bake the rolls for 12–15 minutes, or until golden brown on top.

Step 11

Brush the warm rolls with melted butter as soon as they come out of the oven.

Step 12

To make the cinnamon butter, beat 1/2 cup softened butter, powdered sugar, honey, and cinnamon together in a bowl until light and fluffy.

Step 13

Serve the warm rolls with the cinnamon butter and enjoy!
