Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground beef (80% lean, 20% fat)
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp Garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp Onion powder
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 slices Cheddar cheese slices
  • 4 Burger buns
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 4 leaves Lettuce leaves
  • 8 slices Tomato slices
  • 8 slices Red onion slices
  • 8 slices Pickle slices
  • 4 tbsp Mayonnaise
  • 4 tbsp Ketchup
  • 2 tbsp Mustard

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently with your hands until just combined. Do not overmix.

Step 2

Divide the beef mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into patties about 3/4 inch thick. Press a slight indentation into the center of each patty to help them cook evenly.

Step 3

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Lightly oil the grates or pan to prevent sticking.

Step 4

Cook the burger patties for 3-4 minutes on the first side, until nicely browned. Flip the patties and cook for another 3-4 minutes, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. Add a slice of cheddar cheese to each patty during the last minute of cooking and cover the grill or pan to let the cheese melt.

Step 5

While the burgers are cooking, butter the cut sides of the burger buns and toast them on the grill or in a separate skillet until golden brown.

Step 6

Assemble the burgers: Spread a layer of mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard on the bottom half of each bun. Add a lettuce leaf, followed by a cooked burger patty. Top with tomato slices, red onion slices, and pickle slices. Finish with the top half of the bun.

Step 7

Serve immediately with your favorite sides such as fries or a fresh salad.
