Ingredients

  • 2 pieces (6-ounce each) Ahi tuna steaks
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons White sesame seeds
  • 2 tablespoons Black sesame seeds
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons Wasabi paste
  • 0.25 cup Mayonnaise
  • 2 teaspoons Soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Lime juice
  • 0.25 teaspoon Garlic powder

Directions

Step 1

Pat the ahi tuna steaks dry with paper towels. Season both sides with salt and black pepper.

Step 2

Mix the white sesame seeds and black sesame seeds in a shallow dish. Press each side of the tuna steaks into the sesame seed mixture to create an even coating.

Step 3

In a small bowl, combine the wasabi paste, mayonnaise, soy sauce, lime juice, and garlic powder. Whisk until smooth and set aside.

Step 4

Heat a non-stick skillet or cast-iron pan over medium-high heat. Add vegetable oil and let it heat until shimmering.

Step 5

Place the tuna steaks in the hot pan and sear for 1-2 minutes on each side. The outside should be crisp and sesame-crusted, while the inside remains rare to medium-rare. Adjust cooking time based on your preferred doneness.

Step 6

Transfer the tuna steaks to a cutting board and let them rest for 2 minutes.

Step 7

Slice the tuna steaks against the grain into thin pieces.

Step 8

Drizzle the wasabi sauce over the sliced tuna or serve it on the side as a dipping sauce.

Step 9

Garnish with extra sesame seeds or a lime wedge if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy!
