Ingredients

  • 6 medium-sized tomatoes Roma tomatoes
  • 2 whole peppers Jalapeño peppers
  • 1 whole pepper Serrano peppers
  • 1 medium-sized onion Red onion
  • 3 cloves Garlic cloves
  • 0.5 cups (chopped) Fresh cilantro
  • 2 tablespoons Lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon Sea salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons Cumin
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil

Directions

Step 1

Start by preparing your vegetables: wash the Roma tomatoes, jalapeño peppers, and serrano pepper. Peel the red onion and garlic cloves.

Step 2

Dice the Roma tomatoes into small chunks and set them aside.

Step 3

Remove the stems from the jalapeño and serrano peppers. For less heat, remove the seeds; otherwise, leave them intact for maximum spiciness.

Step 4

Finely chop the jalapeño and serrano peppers, red onion, and garlic cloves.

Step 5

Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, or until fragrant, being careful not to let it burn.

Step 6

Add the diced tomatoes, jalapeño, serrano peppers, and red onion to the skillet. Cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring frequently, until the tomatoes soften and the mixture becomes slightly saucy.

Step 7

Remove the skillet from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.

Step 8

Transfer the cooked mixture to a food processor or blender. Add the chopped cilantro, lime juice, sea salt, and cumin.

Step 9

Pulse the mixture several times until you reach your desired consistency (smooth or chunky). Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary, adding more lime juice or salt to your liking.

Step 10

Transfer the salsa to a serving bowl and let it sit for about 10 minutes to let the flavors meld together.

Step 11

Serve the salsa with tortilla chips, or use it as a topping for tacos, burritos, or grilled meats. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
