Ingredients

  • 2 5-ounce cans Canned tuna in water
  • 4 tablespoons Mayonnaise
  • 2 teaspoons Fresh tarragon leaves, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Celery, finely diced
  • 2 tablespoons Red onion, finely diced
  • 1 teaspoon Lemon juice
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 4 pieces Sourdough bread slices
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 ounces Sharp cheddar cheese, sliced
  • 4 pieces Tomato slices, optional

Directions

Step 1

Drain the canned tuna and place it in a medium-sized mixing bowl. Flake the tuna with a fork to break it into smaller pieces.

Step 2

Add mayonnaise, chopped tarragon, diced celery, red onion, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper to the tuna. Mix until well combined. Set aside.

Step 3

Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium heat.

Step 4

Butter one side of each slice of sourdough bread.

Step 5

Place two slices of bread, buttered side down, onto the preheated skillet.

Step 6

Spread a generous portion of the tuna mixture evenly onto the non-buttered side of the bread in the skillet.

Step 7

Layer two slices of cheddar cheese on top of the tuna mixture. Add optional tomato slices, if desired.

Step 8

Cover with the remaining slices of bread, buttered side up, creating a sandwich.

Step 9

Cook for 3-4 minutes on one side, until the bread is golden brown and crispy. Carefully flip the sandwich and cook for another 3-4 minutes on the other side, allowing the cheese to melt thoroughly.

Step 10

Once both sides are golden and the cheese is melted, remove the sandwiches from the skillet and allow them to cool slightly for 1-2 minutes.

Step 11

Slice and serve immediately!
