Ingredients

  • 500 grams All-purpose flour
  • 120 milliliters Extra virgin olive oil
  • 120 milliliters White wine
  • 10 grams Salt
  • 10 grams Fennel seeds (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. If using, stir in the fennel seeds for a fragrant touch.

Step 2

Add the extra virgin olive oil and white wine to the dry ingredients. Begin mixing with a wooden spoon or your hands until the dough starts to come together.

Step 3

Transfer the dough onto a clean, floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, until it is smooth and elastic.

Step 4

Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and let it rest at room temperature for 30 minutes.

Step 5

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

Step 6

Divide the dough into small walnut-sized pieces. Roll each piece into a rope about 10 cm (4 inches) long and then shape it into a small ring, pressing the ends together to seal.

Step 7

In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Drop in a few taralli at a time. When they float to the surface, remove them with a slotted spoon and place them on a clean kitchen towel to dry for a few minutes.

Step 8

Arrange the boiled taralli on the prepared baking sheets. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.

Step 9

Remove from the oven and let them cool completely on a wire rack before serving or storing in an airtight container.
