Ingredients

  • 150 grams unsalted butter
  • 200 grams semisweet chocolate
  • 200 grams granulated sugar
  • 100 grams brown sugar, packed
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 95 grams all-purpose flour
  • 30 grams unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons salt
  • 100 grams chocolate chips (optional)
  • 75 grams chopped nuts (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F). Line an 8x8 inch (20x20 cm) square baking pan with parchment paper, letting the paper hang over the sides for easy removal.

Step 2

In a medium saucepan, melt the unsalted butter and semisweet chocolate together over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Step 3

Add the granulated sugar and brown sugar to the melted chocolate mixture. Stir until fully combined.

Step 4

Whisk in the eggs, one at a time, making sure each egg is fully incorporated before adding the next. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Step 5

In a separate bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, and salt.

Step 6

Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined. Do not overmix.

Step 7

If using, gently fold in the chocolate chips and/or chopped nuts for added texture and flavor.

Step 8

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly with a spatula.

Step 9

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).

Step 10

Remove the brownies from the oven and let them cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.

Step 11

Once cooled, lift the brownies out of the pan using the parchment paper overhang and cut into 12 equally sized squares. Serve and enjoy!
