Ingredients

  • 180 grams all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 50 grams sugar
  • 200 ml milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 100 grams sweet red bean paste (anko)
  • 1 as needed non-stick cooking spray

Directions

Step 1

In a mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour and baking powder. Add the sugar and whisk to combine.

Step 2

In another bowl, whisk the milk and egg together until well mixed.

Step 3

Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring with a spatula until a smooth batter forms. Make sure there are no lumps.

Step 4

Stir in the vegetable oil and mix until fully incorporated.

Step 5

Preheat a taiyaki pan over medium heat and lightly coat both sides with non-stick cooking spray.

Step 6

Pour a thin layer of batter into one side of the mold, filling about 1/3 of each fish shape.

Step 7

Place a spoonful of sweet red bean paste in the center of the batter of each fish mold.

Step 8

Cover the red bean paste with additional batter until it reaches the edge of the mold, but do not overflow.

Step 9

Close the taiyaki pan and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, until the taiyaki are golden brown and cooked through.

Carefully remove the taiyaki from the pan using a fork or chopsticks and transfer them to a wire rack to cool slightly.
