Ingredients

  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 3 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 1 third cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 packet Active dry yeast
  • 0.25 cup Warm water (110°F)
  • 1 large Egg
  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 cup Brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Ground cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons Unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Whole milk (for icing)
  • 0.5 teaspoons Vanilla extract

Directions

Step 1

In a small saucepan, heat the milk until warm (around 110°F). Remove from heat and stir in the butter and sugar until melted and combined. Set the mixture aside to cool to lukewarm.

Step 2

In a small bowl, combine the warm water and yeast. Let it sit for 5-7 minutes until frothy.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine the milk mixture, yeast mixture, egg, 3 cups of flour, and salt. Mix until a sticky dough forms.

Step 4

Gradually add the remaining cup of flour, a little at a time, while kneading until the dough is soft and slightly tacky but pulls away from the sides of the bowl. Knead for 8-10 minutes by hand or with a dough hook.

Step 5

Transfer the dough to a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1-1.5 hours or until doubled in size.

Step 6

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a 12x18-inch rectangle on a floured surface.

Step 7

Spread the softened butter evenly over the surface of the dough. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle the mixture evenly over the buttered dough.

Step 8

Starting at one of the long edges, tightly roll up the dough into a log. Pinch the seam to seal.

Step 9

Cut the log into 12 equal slices and place them, cut side up, into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Cover and let rise again for 30-40 minutes until puffy.

Step 10

Preheat your oven to 350°F. Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until slightly golden on top and cooked through. Let cool slightly.

Step 11

In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to form a smooth glaze. Drizzle the glaze generously over the warm rolls before serving.
