Ingredients

  • 1 pound beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 6 pieces dried red chilies, chopped
  • 1 medium red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium carrot, julienned
  • 3 stalks green onions, cut into 2-inch lengths
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Szechwan peppercorns, toasted and crushed
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 3 cups white rice (optional, for serving)

Directions

Step 1

Place the sliced beef in a medium bowl. Add the cornstarch, 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, and Shaoxing wine. Mix well to coat the beef evenly. Set aside to marinate for 15 minutes.

Step 2

In a small bowl, prepare the sauce by combining the hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, remaining 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, and crushed Szechwan peppercorns. Stir well and set aside.
