Ingredients

  • 450 grams Beef (sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced)
  • 3 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoons Vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger (grated)
  • 1 teaspoon Szechuan peppercorns
  • 4 Dried red chilies (halved and deseeded for less heat)
  • 1 Red bell pepper (sliced into thin strips)
  • 1 Green bell pepper (sliced into thin strips)
  • 3 Scallions (cut into 2-inch sections)
  • 2 tablespoons Hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil

Directions

Step 1

In a bowl, combine the thinly sliced beef with 2 tablespoons of soy sauce and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch. Mix well to coat the beef and set aside to marinate for 15 minutes.

Step 2

Prepare the stir-fry sauce in a small bowl by mixing 1 tablespoon soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, and sesame oil. Set aside.

Step 3

Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the marinated beef in a single layer. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned and just cooked. Remove the beef from the wok and set aside.

Return the cooked beef to the wok and pour in the prepared stir-fry sauce. Stir everything together and cook for another 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and vegetables evenly.

Step 7
