Ingredients

  • 300 grams German or Swiss-style sausage (e.g., Lyoner or bologna)
  • 150 grams Swiss cheese
  • 3 small Pickles
  • 1 medium Red onion
  • 3 tablespoons White wine vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons Sunflower oil (or another neutral oil)
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
  • 1 side Bread or pretzels (optional, for serving)

Directions

Step 1

Slice the sausage into thin strips, about 4–5 cm (2 inches) in length. Place in a large mixing bowl.

Step 2

Cut the Swiss cheese into strips similar in size to the sausage. Add to the bowl with the sausage.

Step 3

Finely slice the pickles into thin rounds or strips and add to the mixing bowl.

Step 4

Peel the red onion, cut it in half, and then slice it thinly into half-moons. Add to the bowl with the other ingredients.

Step 5

In a small bowl, whisk together the white wine vinegar, sunflower oil, mustard, salt, and black pepper until emulsified.

Step 6

Pour the dressing over the sausage, cheese, pickles, and onions. Toss thoroughly to ensure everything is evenly coated.

Step 7

Cover the salad and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.

Step 8

Before serving, taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley, if desired.

Step 9

Serve the Wurstsalat chilled with a side of bread or pretzels.
