Ingredients

  • 2 5-ounce cans canned tuna in water
  • 0.33 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon dijon mustard
  • 0.33 cup celery, finely diced
  • 2 tablespoons red onion, finely minced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 sandwich bread slices
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 Swiss cheese slices

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven's broiler setting or a toaster oven to high.

Step 2

In a medium mixing bowl, combine the drained tuna, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, diced celery, minced red onion, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper. Stir until well blended and set aside.

Step 3

Lightly butter one side of each bread slice. Place the slices buttered-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or foil.

Step 4

Spoon the prepared tuna mixture evenly onto the non-buttered sides of the bread slices. Gently spread it out to cover the surface.

Step 5

Top each tuna-covered bread slice with a slice of Swiss cheese.

Step 6

Place the baking sheet in the oven on the middle rack. Broil for 3-5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Watch carefully to avoid burning.

Step 7

Remove the Swiss Tuna Melts from the oven and allow them to cool for a minute or two.

Step 8

Cut in halves if desired and serve warm. Enjoy your cheesy, creamy Swiss Tuna Melts!
