Ingredients

  • 8 cups Romaine lettuce
  • 6 slices Bacon
  • 0.25 cup White vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Water
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.25 cup Red onion (optional, thinly sliced)

Directions

Step 1

Wash and dry the romaine lettuce thoroughly. Tear it into bite-sized pieces and place it in a large salad bowl. If using red onion, scatter the slices over the lettuce.

Step 2

In a skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until crispy. Remove the bacon and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain. Once cooled, crumble the bacon into small pieces and set it aside.

Step 3

Carefully pour off all but about 2 tablespoons of the bacon grease from the skillet. Return the skillet to medium heat.

Step 4

Add the white vinegar, granulated sugar, water, salt, and black pepper to the skillet with the remaining bacon grease. Stir until the sugar dissolves and the mixture begins to simmer, about 1-2 minutes.

Step 5

Remove the skillet from the heat and immediately pour the hot dressing over the lettuce in the bowl. Toss the salad gently to ensure the dressing coats all the lettuce leaves evenly.

Step 6

Sprinkle the crumbled bacon over the top of the salad as a garnish.

Step 7

Serve the salad warm and enjoy!
