Ingredients

  • 3 large sweet potatoes
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup pecans
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Peel the sweet potatoes and chop them into large chunks.

Step 3

Place the sweet potato chunks in a large pot, cover them with water, and bring to a boil over high heat. Cook for about 15 minutes, or until they are fork-tender.

Step 4

Drain the sweet potatoes and return them to the pot. Add 4 tablespoons of butter, milk, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt. Mash the mixture until smooth and creamy. Adjust seasonings to taste.

Step 5

Spread the mashed sweet potatoes evenly into a greased 9x13” baking dish.

Step 6

In a medium bowl, prepare the pecan topping by combining the flour, remaining 2 tablespoons of butter (melted), remaining 1/2 cup of brown sugar, chopped pecans, and maple syrup. Mix until crumbly.

Step 7

Crumble the pecan topping evenly over the sweet potato mixture in the dish.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and crispy.

Step 9

Allow the dish to cool for about 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
