Ingredients

  • 4 large sweet potatoes
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 0.75 cup pecans, chopped

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish and set it aside.

Step 2

Peel and dice the sweet potatoes into large chunks. Place them in a pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil and cook until the potatoes are tender, about 15-20 minutes.

Step 3

Drain the sweet potatoes and transfer them to a large mixing bowl. Mash them until smooth.

Step 4

Add the granulated sugar, melted butter, milk, eggs, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt to the mashed sweet potatoes. Mix until well combined and smooth.

Step 5

Spread the sweet potato mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.

Step 6

In a separate bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, and cold, cubed butter. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the chopped pecans.

Step 7

Sprinkle the pecan mixture evenly over the sweet potato layer in the baking dish.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the casserole is heated through.

Step 9

Remove from the oven and let it cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.
