Ingredients

  • 500 ml Freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 100 g Granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp Lemon juice
  • 1 tsp Orange zest

Directions

Step 1

In a small saucepan, combine the granulated sugar and 100 ml of the freshly squeezed orange juice over medium heat.

Step 2

Stir the mixture until the sugar is fully dissolved, forming a simple syrup. This should take about 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool to room temperature.

Step 3

Once cooled, mix the syrup with the remaining orange juice, lemon juice, and orange zest in a large bowl.

Step 4

Pour the mixture into a shallow, freezer-safe dish (like a baking dish). The larger the surface area, the quicker the granita will freeze.

Step 5

Place the dish in the freezer and let it freeze for 30 minutes.

Step 6

After 30 minutes, remove the dish and use a fork to scrape the partially frozen mixture into icy shards, breaking up any large chunks.

Step 7

Return the dish to the freezer and repeat the scraping process every 30 minutes for a total of 3-4 hours, or until the granita is fully frozen and fluffy in texture.

Step 8

Spoon the granita into serving glasses or bowls and serve immediately. Optionally, garnish with a thin slice of orange or a sprig of fresh mint.
